La semana pasada se celebró una nueva edición del AWS Summit Madrid, al que asistieron casi 3.000 profesionales para conocer las novedades y servicios de una compañía que crece a pasos agigantados. En el último año ha aumentado su facturación un 43%, elevándose hasta los 16.000 millones de dólares a nivel mundial.

Este hecho pone de relieve la adopción masiva de los servicios cloud por parte de cualquier tipo de organización, ya sea una startup o una gran empresa, pasando por la administración pública, que tienen cada vez más claras las ventajas que ofrece la nube pública de AWS como parte de su digitalización: agilidad, seguridad, elasticidad, ahorro de costes, amplitud de funcionalidades y convertirse en organizaciones globales.

Con respecto a las actividades del AWS Summit, la compañía junto con sus partners, planificaron 20 sesiones paralelas divididas en 5 temáticas diferentes: Día 1 en AWS, Cloud Computing en el negocio, Automatización en AWS, Big Data e Inteligencia Artificial y, por último pero no menos importante, Innovación en AWS.

Además, durante la ponencia principal, participaron clientes variopintos como Openbank, el Instituto de Empresa y Wallapop, que mostraron cómo ayudaban los servicios de AWS para desarrollar sus negocios a través de la tecnología.

Más de mil nuevos servicios

Miguel Álava, director general de AWS España  mostró un panel en el que se detallaban los 90 servicios diferentes que ofrece AWS y añadió que “a lo largo de 2016 la compañía ha puesto en marcha más de mil nuevos servicios, lo que supone una media de 3 nuevos al día”.

De esta forma, tanto los que ya tienen alguna plataforma funcionando, como aquellos que empiezan de cero, pueden encontrar soluciones que se adaptan a sus necesidades.

A esto se le une la elasticidad de la Cloud de AWS, que a principios del mes de octubre comenzará a facturar por segundos en lugar de horas determinadas instancias de EC2 y el aprovisionamiento EBS, lo que supondrá importantes ahorros en costes a las compañías.

Miguel Álava incidió en que la compañía cuenta en la actualidad con 16 regiones en el mundo repartidas de manera estratégica para garantizar la máxima disponibilidad a los clientes. En lo que resta de año se pondrán en marcha dos nuevas regiones, una en China y otra ubicada en París, con otras tres nuevas sedes que llegarán a lo largo de 2018, todas ellas interconectadas mediante soluciones de fibra para garantizar la replicación de los datos.

De una u otra manera, toda la industria y el tejido empresarial se encuentra presente de una u otra manera en la nube de Amazon, y no solo las típicas start-up que comenzaron en los últimos años (Uber, Airbnb, Netflix, Pinterest, o locales como Wallapop). Tanto las nuevas que nacen de cero, como las más tradicionales, deben abordar el proceso de transformación digital a gran velocidad si no quieren quedarse atrás, y todas ellas pueden encontrar una amplia variedad de soluciones.

Miguel Álava abría la jornada explicando cómo el cloud elimina barreras. Antes, las empresas se centraban en sus recursos de TI, limitados y rígidos, con largos ciclos para poner en producción los productos y aplicaciones, así como una toma de decisiones centralizada. “Ahora, las empresas se pueden centrar en los negocios, evolucionar y ser flexibles, con ciclos de innovación más rápidos para dar respuesta a las cambiantes necesidades de los clientes”, explicó.

La digitalización, que no es otra cosa que crear toda la cadena de valor de los negocios a través de la tecnología usando los datos que manejan las organizaciones, es algo que hay que abordar cuanto antes. Las empresas españolas, aunque con algo de retraso, están llevándola a cabo cada vez con mejor ritmo.

Hay que tener en cuenta que el 5,6% de PIB nacional se genera a través de la economía digital, aunque en otras regiones como Reino Unido ya supone el 10% de su Producto Interior Bruto. Por tanto, queda aún mucho camino por recorrer en este sentido. Y es un camino que deben realizar no solamente las propias compañías privadas, sino también las administraciones públicas y los propios individuos, ya que el trabajo futuro poco o nada tendrá que ver con el actual, por lo que tienen que estar preparados para el cambio a través de formación.

Es aquí donde destacan iniciativas como la Spanish Digital Skills and Job Coalition, de la que AWS es miembro activo para dar formación a los profesionales europeos, o el programa Activate, donde startups y grandes organizaciones reciben apoyo para dar el salto a la transformación digital.

Por su parte, Adrian Cockcroft, Vice President Cloud Architecture Strategy AWS, desgranaba los servicios principales de Amazon Web Services, una lista creciente de más de 90 productos ya disponibles a nivel global a través de la tienda AWS Marketplace. Entre otros, destacaba servicios como AWS Lambda (computación sin tener que prestar atención a los servidores utilizados), Amazon Redshift (data warehousing a escala de Petabytes), Amazon EMR (análisis de grandes volúmenes de datos)… y por supuesto todo lo relacionado con Inteligencia Artificial, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Edge Computing, Internet de las Cosas y cómo conectar todos estos servicios con los recursos que ya manejan las organizaciones en la modalidad privada.

Varias de las ponencias estuvieron dedicadas a mostrar a los asistentes las novedades que están acometiendo en torno a la inteligencia artificial y el uso de bots. AWS quiere poner en manos de los builders (constructores de aplicaciones) este tipo de herramientas disruptivas lo antes posible, para que puedan aplicarlas a sus proyectos y procesos de negocio.

La compañía mostró algunos de sus motores, plataformas y servicios en torno a la IA, de la mano de AWS Rekognition, Polly y Lex, lo que va a permitir la implementación de tecnologías de reconocimiento del habla y procesamiento del lenguaje natural para mejorar las soluciones que las empresas ofrecen a sus clientes.

La importancia de que las empresas se preparen para la digitalización

Sólo una de cada tres empresas españolas está preparada para la digitalización. Es uno de los datos que arroja Amazon Web Services en el AWS Summit de Madrid para concienciar a las empresas de que deben adoptar cuanto antes las tecnologías necesarias para no quedarse atrás y morir en plena era digital. Ésa es una de las asignaturas pendientes para España junto al aumento del PIB dedicado a innovación.

Y es que muchas empresas creen que digitalizarse es tener una página web. Pero el proceso va mucho más allá. De hecho, la digitalización debe aplicarse a tres ámbitos:

  1. Administración
  2. Empresas
  3. Individuos

En cuanto a la administración, la digitalización debe pasar por la creación de un mercado digital único. Respecto a las empresas, deben apostar por planes digitales serios, reforzar y trabajar la seguridad y capacitar a sus equipos para la incorporación de lo digital. A nivel individuo, lo esencial es afrontar el cambio que nos viene.

Todavía queda mucho para llegar a una digitalización masiva en todos los segmentos. De hecho, el director de AWS Miguel Álava aseguró que queda tanto que es difícil dar una cifra concreta. Eso sí, aseguró que en este proceso de digitalización hay dos retos clave: el cambio de mentalidad y el talento digital.
